Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen is optimistic that the country will secure the World Cup ticket in Qatar as they start the journey against Liberia at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Speaking exclusively to Ojodutimes, the forward, who finished as the country’s highest goalscorer in the AFCON qualifiers said the team is focused and won’t take the other teams in the group for granted. He said, “I was happy to finish as top scorer in the AFCON qualifiers and also to qualify for the tournament means a lot to Nigerians.”
“The goal is to get the ticket for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar and I think the team is fully focused and I want to get as many goals I can score for the team and also qualify the team.”
Nigeria will be playing a World Cup qualifier in Lagos after over 20 years but that’s not a worry for the team as Victor Osimhen reassured the fans of the team readiness ahead of the encounter. “The team is very prepared and we are training in high intensity”
“I think the whole squad is ready and we’ve been preparing for a very long time. It’s important to get the win on Friday but it won’t be easy.”
“I think what Nigerians should expect on Friday is nothing but victory as we want to kick off the qualifying campaign with a victory to boost our morale in the next game.” He said.
Nigeria will face Liberia on Friday, September 3rd in the AFCON qualifiers.
