Ahead of the first ever Women road race in Ogun State, Ogun Women Run, put together by Brussels Sports Management Limited, the wife of the Ogun State governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun says she’s looking forward to the event, she has also charged women in the Gateway state to show the stuff they are made of by trooping out to be part of the race.
During a courtesy visit to the first lady today, the Chief Executive Officer, Brussels Sports Management Limited, Mr. Seyi Johnson, who was accompanied by his team, explained the modalities of the race, how it became a reality, and future plans of the company.
In his word ” We are here to let you know what we are trying to do with Ogun State women, Lagos has a race for women, so it’s our turn to engage the women meaningfully”
“We are promoting the girl child agenda, to promote healthy living within women, so Brussel Sports as a sports management company has taken it upon itself to do what has never been done before”
“Sport is a veritable tool of getting options to life, we are therefore encouraging and empowering the youth and the female gender particularly”
“We know you have done a lot for women in the state, but in the area of sports, we noticed it’s what we can do to assist the government in reaching out to Ogun State women”.
In her reaction, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun lauded the team and assured of her unflinching support as the initiative is in tandem with her ideas of building capacity among Ogun Women.
“Thank you for this initiative, it sounds very interesting. First and foremost, anything sports is of interest to me”
“I have to support what you are doing, sport is a form of recreation, it also brings people together, so I am really happy to be a part of this, so whatever it is you need to make this flagship race a success, I’m happy to be a part of it”.
“Whether at the beginning of the race or at the end, I can also participate, and I will try to be a part of it”.
The first lady is expected to present medals to winners at the end of the race.
The maiden Ogun Women Run is scheduled to take place on June 4th 2022, it will flag off at First Bank, Sapon, Abeokuta and will terminate at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto.
