Segun Odegbami, the 1980 AFCON winner and former Super Eagles International, advises Victor Osimhen to remain composed in his pursuit of goals for Nigeria. The Super Eagles have scored only one goal from open play and three in total, including one from the spot and an own goal. Odegbami, Nigeria’s second-highest scorer, believes Osimhen’s goals will come despite some missed opportunities.
Quoting from The Punch, Odegbami said:
“ We don’t have a solid creative midfield yet and we are not as deadly in front of goal. When you have your chances, you must be calm and collected. I’m surprised he (Osimhen) is still under pressure; I think he should calm down,” Odegbami told AfroSport after Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau on Monday.”
The legend additionally supports Osimhen to surpass his goal records for the country and set his sights on Rashidi Yekini’s leading tally of 37 goals, the highest for a Nigerian with the national team. Osimhen has presently scored 21 goals for the national team, drawing level with Rashidi Yekini during the Super Eagles’ opening group stage game against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.
