Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has allayed fears from Nigerians concerning the injury to first choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali.
Francis Uzoho replaced Nwabali in the 80th minute following an injury picked up by the latter on Saturday night with The Super Eagles ahead by a goal.
The 3-time African champions will go ahead to claim a deserved 2-0 victory over old foes Cameroon, with both goals coming from the boots of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, in the 36th and 90th minute inside the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan.
Speaking to the media after the crunch encounter, the Portuguese gaffer explained that there’s no cause for alarm just yet:
“We have to wait 24 or 48hrs to know what is wrong with him but I hope he will available for the next game”
Speaking further on the progress of the team, the 63-year old believes his side are on the right track and should maintain it:
“It was a hard game, an emotional game, one played with heart and we have managed to make it to the Quarter finals.
I want to just win every game, I don’t know what Nigerians think about names in football but if we must defeat Angola, we must play like today”
The Super Eagles must now prepare for a stern test against Angola who earlier in the day had dispatched The Brave Warriors of Namibia 3-0 at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.
A pair of goals from Gelson Dala and a delightful finish from Mabululu were enough to send the Palancas Negras through to the Quarter finals where they face Nigeria on Friday February 2.
Meanwhile, Round of 16 action continues on Sunday with Equatorial Guinea squaring off against The Syli National of Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan in the day’s first match.
While the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pédro is the designated battlefield as The Leopards of DR. Congo will be on the hunt to prevent Egypt’s Pharoahs as they seek an 8th title in The Ivory Coast.
