During the course of the week, Nike released the new Super Eagles jersey for the year 2024. the jersey which is in the usual colours of green and white is in different patterns and design.
The previous jersey worn at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where the Super Eagles finished as runners-up has been the national wear for 2 years from 2022. With a new window approaching which includes the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 AFCON proper, the jersey will be instrumental to the team’s good luck.
Already, the jerseys will be launched in the friendlies against Ghana and Mali coming in a few days time. Africa’s third ranked team will play the Black Stars on the 22nd while the clash with the Eagles on the 26th. Both matches to be played in Morocco.
Taking to their different social media accounts, fans had different thought about the new jersey, that will also see the Super Eagles wear white as their home jersey for the first time in years. Some Nigerians experienced displeasure with the design as been too simple while others said the Nike combination was well put together.
Since 2018, Nigeria has been known as the kings of jerseys as their 2018 Russia World Cup jersey was one of the best in the tournament. In 2022, even though they missed the Qatar World Cup, their jersey was ranked among the very fine jerseys.
Despite the different suggestion and designs from different Nigerians for a Nigerian jersey, Nike did not go any of their ways. Nigeria’s white jersey which usually served as away kit will now be the home kit. it is a plain all white strip with a touch if red at the at the edges and the badge of the NFF. The green jersey also has a touch of the previous design where there are imprint designs.
