Defending champions Remo Stars FC have opened their 2025/26 NPFL campaign with a draw
and a win, as they look to assert their dominance once again in what promises to be one of the
league’s most competitive seasons yet.
Matchday 1: Remo Stars 1–1 Rivers United
Date: August 22, 2025
Venue: MKO Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
The Sky Blue Stars kicked off their title defense at home with a 1-1 draw against Rivers United,
a side with championship pedigree and tactical discipline. Remo Stars started sluggishly and
paid the price early, conceding in the 3rd minute to a well-taken goal by Rivers United’s
Aniekeme Okon.
Head coach Daniel Ogunmodede acknowledged his team’s lack of early intensity, stating:
“We were not too intensive in the first ten minutes and that cost us the game. This is just the first
game, and the players will adapt.”
Remo Stars regrouped and equalized in the 39th minute through Victor Mbaoma, their new
signing, who showed excellent movement and composure to open his account for the season.
Though both teams pushed for a winner, neither side could break the deadlock, settling for a
point apiece.
Matchday 2: kun khalifat 1- 1 Remo Stars Fc
In their second game of the season, Remo Stars traveled to Enyimba international stadium, Aba
to face kun khalifat. Determined to correct their slow start from matchday one, Ogunmodede’s
men came out with greater intent and tactical organization.
An equalizer from Abubakar Ibrahim in the 70th minute and a winning goal from Samson
Olasupo in the 77th minute and solid defensive work from Stanley Joseph helped Remo Stars
secure a narrow win, bringing their total to 4 points from two matches
